Would you go to an art gallery and take things off of the wall?

Fayetteville Roller Derby

Fayetteville Roller Derby Practice

I went to one of the practices for the ladies of Fayetteville Roller Derby in Fayetteville, North Carolina.  I’m no expert on roller derby, but the practice was pretty intense.  Everyone was dedicated during the 2 hours of drills, exercising, and skating, but they seemed to be enjoying all of it.  I saw some of them take hard falls so I can’t imagine how intense an actual game is, and I hope to make it to one of them. On […]

Fujica AX-3

Rescuing and Shooting with the Fujica AX-3

One of my recent pickups was a Fujica AX-3 for $15.  I carry batteries with me when I’m buying film cameras to test them.  Once I popped the batteries in this one, the shutter was firing, but I didn’t bother to check the meter, which was a mistake.  After getting the camera cleaned up, I finally checked the meter and it will tell you that every shot is underexposed.  So, I had to rely on my manual shooting skills with […]

Shots from Sunday Dinner

Below are a few shots from this past Sunday dinner.  Items on the menu included, macaroni and cheese, green beans, rice, and sausage.  Sunday dinners are different for me now because I changed my eating habits about 2 years ago, so the green beans and rice were all I had.  But everyone else enjoyed the rest of the food.

wasp building nest

Summer Home

These wasps started building a nest under my mailbox and I decided to let them finish the process.  I had to be brave to get this photo.  I ended up using an extension tube, so I had to get really close for this shot.  I used the Canon 5D Mark III.  The wasp nest is still standing.

Develop Film at Home C41

Developing Color Negatives (C-41) at Home

In the last post, I went over the materials needed to develop color negatives at home.  I finally developed my first few batches and it wasn’t so bad.  The process was actually therapeutic.  I made my mixes in a 1 Liter measuring cup and then transferred the mixes to a storage bottle.  I will tell you to be careful with the blix.  It can get messy when mixing, transferring to the storage bottle, and during the agitations/inversions.  After doing an […]

Photography Exhibit at Red Door Records & Cinema

Having a photography exhibit at the record store is like a dream come true to me.  Diggin for vinyls and photography are 2 things I’m very passionate about.  Red Door Records and Cinema had a photography exhibit this past Friday.  The event had a nice turnout and it was cool to be able to meet some of the local artists.  Here are a few shots from the night.

My View on a Rainy Day

Here are some photos I took on a rainy day while waiting for the rain to calm down.  These were shot with the Sony a6000.

The Birth of Dermani Ason

The Watermelon Thief

A lot of interesting things happen throughout our day, but we are constantly on the go and miss a lot of things.  Photography has helped me to keep my eyes open, slow down, and be more observant, which makes life much more enjoyable.   Because I  am always equipped with the camera, I am able to catch some of these things.  In this short moment, I was sitting at the stop light for no more than 2 minutes when I […]

Sandy Valdespino

Sandy Valdespino: An Evening with the Former MLB Player

Terrance, one of my best friends who coaches a little league team in Germany, is the grandson of Sandy Valdespino, a former MLB player during the 60s and 70s.  He played with the Minnesota Twins in the 1965 World Series.  Terrance recently asked me to take some baseballs to his Grandfather so he could sign them for the little league team. I met up with Mr. Valdespino and his daughter at a Chick-fil-A where we enjoyed some conversation while he […]
